SAA President Suzuki Pays Courtesy Call on Former Nigerian President H.E. Olusegun Obasanjo

On November 3, 2025, Mr. Shuichi Suzuki, President of the Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA), paid a courtesy visit to H.E. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former Head of State (5th and 12th President) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, in Abeokuta, Ogun State, in southwestern Nigeria.

Former President Obasanjo commended SAA for its longstanding contribution to agricultural development in Nigeria and across Africa, emphasizing that “agricultural transformation requires continuity and the steady accumulation of practical experience. I hope SAA will continue to work for the future of Africa’s youth.”

In response, President Suzuki highlighted that Nigeria’s abundant agricultural resources and its vibrant youth population constitute the nation’s greatest strengths. He reaffirmed SAA’s commitment to further supporting agricultural productivity and food security in the country.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of SAA’s extensive engagement in improving the livelihoods and promoting the capacity development of smallholder farmers throughout Nigeria.

During his stay, President Suzuki also met with representatives of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Nigeria Office, and the Embassy of Japan in Nigeria, exchanging views on strengthening future collaboration.

The visit attracted wide coverage by local media, reflecting growing public interest in SAA’s activities in Nigeria.
