Harmonizing Productivity and Ecology: Ethiopia’s Leaders Unite for Regenerative Agriculture

December.9.2025

The Power for Food Partnership, a regional East Africa initiative led by SNV funded by the IKEA Foundation, was officially launched on December 09, 2025, at the Adwa Victory Museum in Addis Ababa. The Sasakawa Africa Association (SAA) is proud to be part of this transformative initiative which aims to expand opportunities in regenerative agriculture and renewable energy while improving livelihoods for smallholder farmers in Ethiopia.

Advancing the RA-PURE Nexus

The launch event brought together visionary and strategic leaders committed to transforming Ethiopia’s food system through the Regenerative Agriculture and Productive Use of Renewable Energy (RA-PURE) Nexus Program. In Ethiopia, the initiative will promote inclusive livelihoods through solar-powered irrigation and processing, empower local actors and institutions, and scale sustainable farming practices by 2030.  By integrating regenerative agriculture with clean energy solutions, the program seeks to strengthen food security, climate resilience, and economic opportunity for rural communities.

SAA’s Role in Field-Level Implementation

SAA will play a central role in the field-level implementation of regenerative agriculture and renewable/clean energy practices. With its deep-rooted presence and longstanding experience in Ethiopia, SAA  is well positioned to support the scaling of sustainable farming systems while strengthening the adoption of renewable energy technologies among smallholder farmers. Through capacity building, technical support, and community engagement, SAA aims to enhance the resilience, productivity, and incomes of local farming households.

Government Commitment and Strategic Alignment

Reflections from Ethiopia’s Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) underscored the strategic importance of the partnership in advancing national priorities related to climate resilience, food security, and green growth. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the MoA, MoWE, and SNV officially marked the launch of the initiative. This was followed by partnership signing among implementing organizations. As part of this significant milestone, SAA joined other key partners in signing the agreement, reaffirming its commitment to advancing regenerative agriculture and renewable energy solutions in Ethiopia.
