The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MoFA) and The Nippon Foundation co-hosted the Core Group Meeting of the Eminent Persons Group on Peace and Stability in Africa on 31st August and 1st September. Five former Heads of State were invited to the Meeting, with the aim of putting forward proposals in the field of peace, security and stability in Africa.

Our former Board Directors, H.E. Mr. Nicéphore Soglo, former President of Benin, and H.E. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, former President of Nigeria, also participated in the Meeting.

It was a great privilege for SAA that Mr. Yoshimasa Kanayama, President of SAA, and Ms. Fumiko Iseki, Executive Director of SAA, had opportunities to meet H.E. Mr. Soglo and H.E. Chief Obasanjo alongside Mr. Yohei Sasakawa, the Chairman of The Nippon Foundation, during their stay in Japan. Mr. Kanayama and Ms. Iseki expressed their gratitude for their considerable and dedicated support to SAA.

As part of his visit, SAA was also delighted to welcome H.E. Mr. Nicéphore Soglo, who had been the Board Director of SAA for more than 15 years, to the position of Honorary Advisor to SAA.
